Baby B's Blanket

My sister is expecting her second child due in April, and as soon as I found out, I began thinking about what I could make to welcome this baby. When she had her first child, I quilted a small blanket for him, so for the second, I decided to do something a little different.

I had been crocheting a lot, so I decided that was what I was going to do for this baby.  Once I found out that Baby B is a little girl, I began looking for the perfect pattern, and I quickly became discouraged…there were so many, and there were so many stitches I didn’t know, and I was afraid I’d never complete it, let alone have it look good!!!

As luck would have it, Cheri, from I’m in Stiches, a local crochet designer was hosting a class, to teach a blanket pattern. It was a sign, and I instantly signed up!

We purchased a pattern from Craftsy, as Cheri didn’t have time to complete her own design prior to class. The pattern was the Modern Patchwork Blanket by BabyLove Crochet Patterns. I love the different pattern and textures of this blanket, and you can make it your own with different color variations, different square counts, the options are endless!

Taking this class was such fun! Meeting new people, agonizing together over the pain of tearing out stitches, learning new stitches and how to better read patterns. It was all worthwhile…if you are a beginner or even a little more advanced, I’d suggest finding a local class. It is totally worth it!!!

Look at all my squares!

There were two big things I took away from this class:
1.     I LOVE granny squares…they come together so quickly, and the color combinations are virtually endless!
2.     Picking up a second color, as opposed to tying off and tying on every time you want to change color, is the BEST technique I have ever learned. No joke, I have avoided projects with lots of color because of the tying off, tying on, weaving in ends noise…NEVER AGAIN! Bring on the multi color or striped projects!!!

Thursday was our final class, we learned a joining technique and how to edge our project…I'm working on the border right now...I can't wait to get this project finished,
